Our Story

It all began with those magical summer road trips through Canada's fruit country, where our family would wind through endless orchards and discover the stories hidden in every grove.

Following in the footsteps of generations before us who worked the land, we found ourselves captivated by how these orchards had become such cherished Canadian treasures.

What started as childhood memories of biting into crisp apples straight from the tree slowly grew into something bigger—a dream to create our own piece of that agricultural heritage.

Today, North Folk Cidery is that dream come to life. We're not just farmers and entrepreneurs; we're storytellers crafting artisanal ciders that celebrate the folktales and traditions of Northern roots. Our family tends the land with the same organic practices and polycultural farming methods passed down through generations, growing cold-hardy apples that flourish naturally in our climate. From "The Good Apple" apple cider vinegar to craft ciders, and sipping sparklers, every bottle we create is our way of contributing something meaningful to the community we've called home.

What makes your cider unique?

Our ciders blend time-honoured traditional techniques with the purity of Canadian-grown fruit. From crisp English-style dry ciders to naturally sweet, effervescent French keeved ciders, each bottle is a testament to craftsmanship and quality.

  • Crafted from 100% Canadian, farm-fresh fruit
  • Naturally low in sugar, gluten-free, and additive-free
  • Rich in polyphenols and antioxidants — on par with red wine
  • Traditional methods, modern standards

We don’t cut corners with concentrate, added sugars, or artificial flavoring. Just clean, honest cider made for people who care about what’s in their glass.

Where are you located?

North Folk is nestled at the Gateway to the Rockies, just thirty minutes from South Calgary near Kananaskis Country and scenic Highway 40. We are nestled in the countryside and our roads are paved the whole way.

What is a Sipping Sparkler?

A combination of all-natural ingredients taken from recipes dating back hundreds of years. Its well-known health benefits and hydrating properties made it a popular thirst quencher in the 19th century, where it became a mainstay with hardworking settlers and harvest farmers.

Our Sipping Sparklers are not fermented and instead use a by-product of cider fermentation - apple cider vinegar. This results in zero alcohol content and zero caffeine. While offering good gut health, they also have electrolytes such as potassium and calcium. Our Sipping Sparklers are appealing because they are a ready to drink beverage that is perfectly balanced, refreshing, and tastes like farm-fresh fruit.

Do you use sulfites?

Yes — we do use a small amount of sulfites in our cider. Sulfites are naturally occurring compounds found in many foods (and even in the human body), and they’re commonly used in winemaking and cidermaking.

We use sulfites to:

  • Gently halt fermentation at the perfect moment
  • Prevent spoilage, oxidation, and unwanted bacteria

The amount we use is minimal and well within accepted safety limits. Sulfites are rarely detectable in taste and safe for the vast majority of people. Only a small percentage of individuals are sensitive or allergic to sulfites, and for them, all packaged ciders (like wines) are required to carry a “contains sulfites” label.

We believe in making great cider with transparency and care — and sulfites are part of how we ensure quality without compromising the natural integrity of our product.
